Ajit Doval reappointed National Security Adviser, given Cabinet rank
New Delhi: Ajit Doval was appointed as the National Security Adviser (NSA) on Monday for a second consecutive term and elevated to the rank of Union Cabinet Minister, a release from Personnel Ministry said on Monday.
A 1968-batch IPS officer, Doval has been given Cabinet rank in the present Narendra Modi government. This is in recognition of his contribution in the national security domain, sources said. His appointment will be for another five years.
In May 2014, Doval was appointed as the NSA in the rank of Minister of State.
Last year, the government has set up a panel, headed by NSA Ajit Doval, to assist the National Security Council, which advises the Prime Minister on matters of national security and strategic interests.
The 74-year-old Ajit Doval earlier headed the Intelligence Bureau (IB) before retirement.
