20 dead in lightning strikes amid unseasonal rainfall in Gujarat

At least 20 people lost their lives in lightning strikes across the state of Gujarat over the weekend due to unseasonal rainfall.

Gandhinagar: In tragic news, at least 20 people lost their lives due to lightning strikes across the state of Gujarat over the weekend. The lightning strikes were triggered due to unseasonal rainfall in the state.

The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported these rain related death across several districts. As per reports from reliable sources, four people lost their lives in Dahod, three in Bharuch, and two in Tapi. Further, one death each was reported in other districts like Ahmedabad, Amreli, Banaskantha, Botad, Kheda, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Sabarkantha, Surat, Surendernagar, and Devbhumi Dwarka.

Expressing sorrow over the losses due to lightning strikes in Gujarat, Union Minister Amit Shah assured that the local administration is actively involved in relief and rescue efforts. He shared condolences and also mentioned about the ongoing work to assist the affected families.

The affected districts of Surat, Surendernagar, Kheda, Tapi, Bharuch, and Amreli experienced rainfall ranging from 50 t0 117 mm within a span of 16 hours, as per the data provided by SEOC. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predict a gradual decline in rainfall starting from Monday.
