‘Kali is the mother, Shiva is the son’, avers eminent writer Manoj Das

As per Hindu mythological texts and traditional belief it is a generally accepted fact that Goddess Kali is the consort of Lord Shiva. Goddess Kali has been depicted as the violent and furious manifestation of Goddess Parvati, commonly known as the consort of Lord Shiva. However, eminent Odia writer Padma Shri Manoj Das recently revealed that Goddess Kali is the mother of Lord Shiva. He was addressing the audience during the Kadambini Sahitya Mahotsava recently held in the capital city.

“Long ago once I had been to the Shree Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, where once The mother opined that Goddess Kali is the mother and Shiva is the son. I was shaken. The statement as if traumatized my traditional belief. Later I forget it. However, years back I had visited the famous shrine Tarapith in West Bengal, where an incident made me to believe that she was not wrong. I realized that the statement was true on some occasion.”

Das narrated: “Years back I had been to the famous shrine of Goddess Kali at Tarapith. I was much interested to know about the great saint Bamakhepa and his association with the Goddess. The deity is worshipped as Rudrakali in this shrine. It is in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. It was raining heavily on that day. Normally, the temple is densely crowded, but when I had visited, there were less number of devotees thanks to rain. A top class official of West Bengal government was my company in this trip.

“We reached the location late at night and went straight to the temple. After the last few devotees offered their worship, it was now our turn to have a glimpse of the Goddess. My friend had a small talk with the servitor who asked us to wait till mid night to witness an exceptional incidence. After midnight we reached close to the deity when astonishingly he started unveiling the idol. He pulled out the wig, attires and jewelry of the idol. We were confused and stunned. Finally we witnessed a white glittering incredible stone inside the deity’s statue. It was quite impossible for us to judge value of the precious stone.”

The servitor described, “We know about the mythological episode when Lord Shiva had drunk the poison during churning of the sea by the Gods and the demons. However, we don’t know the aftermath. As the Lord swallowed the poison that had emerged out of churning of the sea, He felt intolerable inflammation. It was too hard even for the God to resist the lethal effect of the poison. At this very moment Goddess Kali approached Him and fed him milk from her breast. And then only Lord Shiva became normal. Lord Shiva is known as Nilakantha for having the poison.”

The writer wanted to convey that since in this episode Goddess Kali had acted like a mother, she can be accepted as the mother of Lord Shiva. And hence the statement ‘Kali is the mother, Shiva is the son.”

India has contributed many interesting legends to the world. It really is a tough task to know in detail about the act of Gods and Goddesses. Sometimes the theological doctrines and mythological tales contradict each other, but it is believed that all those mythological legends have something genuine and meaningful to learn and adopt.

All kinds of puranic stories about Debotas are so miracles, unimaginable which make sanatan dharma ridiculous. How these stories revealed ? Are they shriti ?
They were dream story or what ? Different different stories, not consistent.

Every incident is either described by the person included in that or by the observer. As we all know each person has a different way of depicting stuffs, so the depictions are done by the observer of those events and thanks to that we sometimes find inconsistencies in the stories but the foundation remains the same throughout them.
Ofcourse Shiva is just there, he is a sort of energy and out of our understanding. He is unborn but the sentence like “Goddess Kaali is the mother of Lord Shiva” they are just a way of describing events (and the event has been made clear in the above article).
And for those questioning the evidence of these stories and calling them out to be “dreams”, then my dear fellow reader nothing here in this world can be 100% proved. You see, all we can do is assume and remain in illusion of stuff like everything in this universe is human-centric. But this universe has much more to it, so much more than we could ever imagine because even our imagination is been limited by disbelief and set of illusions.
Believing in Sanatana Dharma or not is completely your choice but you can’t call them out to be ridiculous.. Sanatana Dharma is a beautiful Dharma which encourages one to be conscious of themselves and their surroundings. It encourages people to perform good deeds, have sympathy and show love to each and every small creation of this planet.
