‘Biswanath-Born to love’, an Odia film made with Hyderabadi masala: Director

Bhubaneswar: Upcoming Odia film ‘Biswanath-Born to love’ starring Sambit and Sambhabana is all set to release in Raja. The makers launched the official trailer of the film recently that earned mixed response from netizens.

The shooting of the movie completed two years ago. However, the release was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Produced under the banner HMT Productions, the movie is written and directed by Hyderabad based young director Bobbili Kiran. After working as associate director for several Telegu movies, he has now ventured to Ollywood as a director.

Kalinga TV talked to the director, when he came up that the film is a “paisa wasool movie.”

Talking about the late release Kiran said, “The shooting of the movie completed two years ago. However due to the Covid-19 pandemic we were not able to finish the editing and all other technical parts in time. On the other hand we wanted people to visit the theatres and enjoy the movie in a big screen, which was not being possible due to the pandemic.”

Excerpts from the interview:

What can people expect from this movie?

“Action, Drama, Comedy, Emotion and Devotion; in short it is a complete package. Most of all it is an original script.

Love is not limited to what a couple shares, it can happen between a father and a son, between two brothers, etc. In the film, the protagonist dwells upon the problem that occurs in his relationships.

Being a non-Odia, what inspired you to make an Odia movie?

Odia film industry is one of the oldest movie industries. But, the audience almost left watching Odia films after many started copying from Tollywood. However, I want to bring back the magic of Odia language through this film. I hope, this film will make Odia people to love their regional film. Besides, ‘Biswanath’ offers a high quality cinematography.”

“Also, in Odisha a good film can be made even with a low budget.”

What was the reaction following the trailer launch?

“Netizens came up with mixed response. Where some loved the visuals and showed their excitement, many also showed disappointment calling it a copy film. I am not surprised, as people are habituated of seeing copied stuffs for quite some times. Apart from that, I have added some South Indian style film masala which may seem like some scenes have been copied. But I can assure that it is an original work, and no scene or story line is copied from anywhere.”

“For me this is an ‘Odia dish made with Hyderabadi spices.”

How did you come up with the cast of the movie?

“It wasn’t that hard considering how senior and renowned Mihir Das sir was. Apart from them Late Salil Mitra, Prativa Panda, Rai Mohan Parida among others are also major parts of the movie. Sambit and Sambhabana are young but they have won the hearts of Odia audience in a very less time. Along with that we are also introducing a new face, Sangeeta. Assembling the cast wasn’t that hard because of how co-operative and talented every one around here is.”

“My only regret is not being able to release the movie before we lost Mihir Das sir and Salil Mitra sir. This will remain their last released movie that they couldn’t even enjoy watching.”

Does the story of the movie has any real life significance?

“It can be put it this way that the story is inspired by real life events, but it is very much fictional.”

How are the songs in the film?

“Well we have added six songs in the movie, and all of them are is composed by Abhijeet Mazumdar. I am very positive about the music to become super-hit in the coming days and will be heard playing in every public place. There are four romantic songs, two for each actress and one item number which is definite to make everyone to get up from their seats and groove to its peppy beats. Lastly, there is one title song which define a lot about our main character.

Although the makers have not announced a release date for the movie, during our conversation Kiran said that that they are planning to get the movie to hit the screens on the occasion of Raja this year.
