Sensex down 272 points at 71,620, Nifty drops below 22,000

With a sharp decline of 271.85 points, the 30-share BSE Sensex opened at 71,620.63 in the early session. The Nifty also declined to 21,594.45 points. 

New Delhi: BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty continue the downward trend for the third day on Wednesday as  IT and financial stocks plummet in global markets.

With a sharp decline of 271.85 points, the 30-share BSE Sensex opened at 71,620.63 in the early session. Meanwhile, the Nifty also declined by 71.35 points to 21,594.45.

At 11.00am, the Sensex was trading at 71,546.79 with fall of 345.69 points or 0.48 per cent. Meanwhile, the Nifty had declined 102.10  or 0.47 per cent to 21,563.70.

The major winners were ITC, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv, and Reliance Industries. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and Power Grid were among the major losers.
