Piyush Goyal Dedicates India’s First Railway University To Nation

Vadodara: Union Minister for Railways, Coal and Corporate Affairs Piyush Goyal on Saturday dedicated India’s first Railway University, National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI) in Vadodara to the nation.

The National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), deemed university in Vadodara, had opened its doors to the first batch of 103 students from 20 states in two fully-residential undergraduate courses in September this year.

After Russia and China, India is the only country to have a university dedicated to railways. The university has two undergraduate courses that are fully residential, viz, B.Sc in Transportation Technology, and BBA in Transportation Management.

103 students had already been shortlisted for the two undergraduate courses. The student body consists of 17 girls and 86 boys who come from 20 states. Forty-one students are admitted in BBA (Transportation Management) while and 62 students are in B.Sc (Transportation Technology) programme.

The university plans to begin the master’s programme beginning the 2019-20 academic year. The subjects of study will include areas like Transport Policy and Economics, Systems Design, Transport Systems Engineering etc.

The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Rs 421 crores for the university and its curriculum’s development for the next five years.
