Kashmir Valley Cut Off From Rest Of India Due To Heavy Snow Fall

Srinagar: The Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the country for the second consecutive day due to snowfall. Heavy snowfall has snapped the power supply in the valley, leading to a massive power black-out in the valley.

The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed for vehicular traffic as snowfall has made it extremely difficult to ply on the roads. Heavy snowfall has led to flooding in many parts of the valley after drains were clogged by the snow, increasing the water level on roads. Snowfall in Kashmir has also led to the cancellation of multiple Srinagar-bound flights. Some of these have been short terminated at Jammu. Snowfall has also caused damage to apple orchards in the valley.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police evacuated about 700 people from Jawhar Tunnel and Sonmarg who were stranded midway due to inclement weather and snowfall. Over 1000 persons were provided food and shelter in Banihal by Jammu & Kashmir Police as well as the Civil administration.
