Dhenkanal: Normal life came to a grinding halt in Rasol town in the district on Monday in response to a 12-hour bandh called by the district unit of BJP to press its demand for Notified Area Council (NAC) status for the town.

The protesters blocked Cuttack-Sambalpur road as well as roads in different part of the town. With vehicular communication coming to a standstill in and outside the town, commuters had a harrowing time reaching their destinations.

Educational institutions, shops and other business establishments remained closed in the town due to the bandh.

“It has been a long-standing demand of the people from this area for the NAC status to Rasol. If the government will not fulfill our demand at the earliest, we will intensify our agitation,” said BJP leader Biranchi Nayak.
