Keonjhar: At least four persons were killed and another sustained critical injury after a car they were travelling rammed into a roadside tree near Saradhapur village under Sadar Police Station area in the district last night.
The deceased have been identified as Kalpataru Tirthabasi Parida, Chitanya Bikash Sahu, Prashant Patra and Rajesh Kumar Guru. The critically hurt has been identified as Kamalakhya Parida, son of Kalpataru.
The mishap took place at around 2 AM in the night while the victims were returning home after attending a ‘Satsang’, religious congregation in Rairangpur area in neighbouring Mayurbhanj district. It is suspected that Kamalakhya who was driving the car dozed off at the wheel causing the vehicle to hit a roadside tree.
The intensity of the collision was so high that four persons on board the car died on the spot. Kamalakhya, who had a miraculous save in the crash turned critical on the spot.
Police reached the spot to rush the injured to Keonjhar DHH and seize the bodies later in the night.
