Ravenshaw University Closed Sine Die due to student unrest

Cuttack: The Ravenshaw University closed sine die on Tuesday following student unrest over annual fee hike.

Vice Chancellor of the University Ishan Patro informed that the sine die was declared at 10 PM and the students have been asked to vacate the hostel by 10 AM today.

The varsity authorities also have threatened disciplinary action against the students who fail to vacate the hostel within the stipulated time.

The authorities of the University took the sine die decision after hundreds of students staged a mass demonstration on the campus and gheraoed the Vice-Chancellor’s office protesting fee hike and other issues yesterday morning.

The students also protested official order to vacate hostels by May 28 and introduction of compulsory meals for hostel boarders. They also demanded appointment of professors and lecturers in all the vacant posts and re-introduction of previous instant examination system for final year students.

Meanwhile, the students urged the University authorities to lift the sine die and also warned to continue their protest till the decision to hike fees is revoked.
