This battery tech will ensure that you never charge your Smartphone

It will not be wrong to say that smartphones have become indispensable part of our life. However, charging the battery of the smartphone is quite boring. A person has to charge his smartphone once or twice a day and this has become a part of daily routine. Even though there has been an improvement in fast charging system for smartphones, it does not make our life any easier. It is because in the last couple of years our smartphone dependency has increased and not otherwise. However, a Chinese company is developing a tech that can charge smartphones for decades.

According to a report by WinFuture, a Chinese company named Betavolt Technology is developing a battery tech that can keep smartphones working for not just days or months but decades. The Chinese company is developing a radionuclide battery that is suitable to power mobile devices. The technology is quite costly but the battery offers long life and high energy density. The company has developed its first model and it is said to provide 100 microwatts of electricity. This technology will be advanced and used to make smaller batteries in the next two years, said the company. The smaller batteries will be used for smartphones.

Functioning of these batteries

The batteries use radioactive decay to generate energy. Betavolt is working on a model that uses artificial diamond layer of 10 micrometers. It serves as a semiconductor layer and will produce electricity when combined with decaying nickel isotope. The electricity can be used to power applications such as medical devices, sensors, microrobots and much more.

The company has claimed that no radiation escapes from the system. No toxic chemicals are produced as nickel-63 breaks down into copper. The batteries can be used in -60 to 120 degrees Celsius and can provide a backup for up to 50 years.
