Samsung is introducing a new feature called “Temporary Cloud Backup” to facilitate easier phone data backups for its users. This feature provides free cloud storage for specific files but comes with a catch, i.e., the data is available for a limited time. The global rollout for this feature is scheduled for this fall, and it is expected to be available in India as well.

Samsung’s temporary cloud backup allows users to store files with a maximum size of 100 GB. However, the stored data will remain in the cloud for a period of up to 30 days. To access this feature, users must have Samsung devices running One UI 6.0 or higher. The feature is designed to offer a secure place for temporarily storing important files, particularly during scenarios like phone repairs.

The key purpose of this free storage plan is to provide users with a safe location to store essential data without the worry of data loss. It becomes especially valuable when a device requires servicing or replacement.

Using temporary cloud backup is a straightforward process. Users can easily upload their critical files to the cloud from one Samsung device and access them from another device, as long as both devices are Samsung products. Additionally, two-factor authentication will be a necessary step to ensure the security of the process.

An important feature of this service is that users will receive notifications as the 30-day storage period for each files expires. This timeframe is calculates individually for each file and starts immediately upon file upload. Even files stored in Samsung’s Secure Folder can be backed up in the cloud for free during this period.

Samsung plans to roll out the “Temporary Cloud Backup” storage plan in phases, initially prioritizing Galaxy S and Z series devices. The rollout begins in Korea and will expand to other countries, with India being one of the key markets of Samsung’s global list.
