Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association threaten stir from Nov 1 Bhubaneswar: Demanding the repeal of the state government’s decision to reintroduce tax collection at toll gates and police checking, the All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association threatened to launch a state-wide indefinite strike from November 1.

The association alleged that police checking and tax collection at toll gates will affect the passengers and will also increase corruption.

The bus owners also claimed that increase in bus fare under automatic mechanism, which should have already been implemented as per 12 parameters once a year, is yet to be done.

“A memorandum with a five-point charter of demands, which includes repeal of government’s decision to reintroduce tax collection at toll gates and police checking, has been submitted to the state government on October 3. But the government is yet to pay any heed to the issues. Therefore, private buses across the state will stay off the roads for an indefinite period from November 1,” said Debendra Sahu, general secretary of the association, while briefing newsmen at a state level meeting yesterday.
