Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced that the state government will take immediate steps for handing over the Kunduli Case to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) here on Wednesday.

“Because of the extraordinary circumstances of the case after the death of the victim girl, my strong faith and conviction in the principle of natural justice and commitment to safety and dignity of women, the state government will take immediate steps for handing over the investigation of the cases to a Special Investigation Team with a prayer to be monitored by Court,” said Patnaik while speaking to newsmen at the State Secretariat

Terming the alleged Kunduli gang rape case as an extremely tragic incident, Naveen said, “It is my firm belief that law should take its own course and justice should be done without fear or favour.”

Assuring that the state government is committed that justice should be delivered at the earliest and in the most transparent manner, the Chief Minister further said, “In addition to transferring the case for investigation to the Crime Branch, the state government had also instructed an independent Judicial Inquiry with a sitting judge nominated by the High Court.”

BJPs legislature party (BJPLP) leader KV Singh Deo says people of Odisha have completely lost faith in the probe & CM. Justice delayed is justice denied, added Singh Deo.

He made an attack saying SIT probe is nothing but to merely delay justice to the deceased victim.

A ninth class tribal student of Musaguda village in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10, 2017. Later, she committed suicide at her house on January 22.
