Bhubaneswar:  Muktikanta Biswal, who walked for 71 days covering more than 1,500 km in his attempt to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year, has been named as Congress candidate from the Rourkela Assembly constituency in Odisha for the upcoming polls.

The 31-year-old idol maker hit the headlines when he began his journey on foot from Rourkela to New Delhi in April, 2018, carrying the National Flag and a banner, to remind PM Modi of his promises he had made during his maiden visit to the steel city in the state.

Biswal claimed that PM Modi had promised to upgrade the Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela into a super multi-specialty facility and construction of second Brahmani Bridge in the steel city, which were remained unfulfilled.

The youth fainted on a highway and was admitted to a hospital in Agra, Uttar Pradesh before reaching the national capital. However, he failed to meet PM Modi upon his arrival in Delhi.

After returning from Delhi with an empty hand, Biswal managed to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and requested to fulfil the two long-standing demands of the people in Rourkela.
