An Indian man shared his story on Reddit about how he bought a Macbook at a cheaper price by travelling to Vietnam and turned the purchase into an affordable 11-day vacation.
The reddit user revealed that he first checked the price of Macbook in India which was around Rs. 1.85 Lakh. Then, he booked the cheapest round-trip flight to Hanoi, Vietnam.
He brought same Macbook from an authorized Apple reseller for about Rs. 1.48 lakh as Vietnam’s tech products are generally cheaper and tourists can claim a VAT refund that reduces the final cost.
Following this, he decided to stay there for 11 days to explore Hanoi while working remotely. He enjoyed local food, affordable accommodation and sightseeing during this time.
The man claimed his total expenses including the laptop, flight, stay, meals and activities came around Rs. 2.8 lakh, which after claiming VAT refund dropped to Rs 1.97 lakh.
This means that the entire trip including the MacBook cost only about Rs. 48,000 more than buying the laptop in India alone.
His story quickly went viral on Reddit, earning praises from users for combining smart shopping, travel and also work.
