Hyena attack leaves two critical in Odisha’s Keonjhar

In a terrifying incident, two women sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a hyena in Odisha's Keonjhar district on Sunday.

Keonjhar: In a terrifying incident, two women sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a hyena in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Sunday.

The injured women have been identified as Rajo Nayak of Talapada village and Rukmani Mahapatra of Chemundibil village.

Informing to the media persons about the tiger attack, Rajo Nayak’s daughter Sangita Nayak said that her mother was attacked by the hyena while she was sitting at the backyard.

After hearing her mother’s cry for help, Sangita rushed towards her with a stick and attacked the hyena which, out of fear, fled from the spot. However, by the time Rajo had sustained severe injuries on her face, chest, arms, and thighs.

Likewise, Mahapatra was attacked by the hyena while tending cattle around a kilometer away from the house. She could not notice the hyena and run to escape as it attacked her from behind, informed her husband Trilochan Mahapatra adding that Rukmani has sustained grievous injuries on her left hand.

Both of them have been admitted at the Keonjhar-based Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

The hyena attack on the women has sparked fear among the local residents who urged the forest officials to take steps to disperse the wild animals from the locality so that such incident does not reoccur again.
