Heavy rain in Malkangiri: Airport wall collapses, Malkangiri-Motu NH 326 blocked
At least 3 to 4 feet of water is flowing over Pateru, Kangurkonda and Kanyashram bridges in the district
Malkangiri: Many woes have been experienced in Malkangiri district today due to heavy rain. Malkangiri Airport wall has collapsed due to heavy and incessant rain. Besides, the road connecting Malkangiri-Motu on the NH 326 has got blocked due to heavy downpour.
As per reports, regarding the wall collapse, there were complaints earlier about low-quality construction work. This wall was broken and repaired many times in the past few months. Today, the wall again collapsed due to rain.
On the other hand, various bridges in Malkangiri district have submerged due to incessant rain. As many as 3 to 4 feet of water is flowing on some bridges of the district including Pateru, Kangurkonda and Kanyashram bridges.
Hundreds of vehicles are stuck on both sides of these bridges. National Highway No. 326 from Malkangiri to Motu is completely closed. Due to the submergence of the Kanyashram bridge, traffic from Kalimela to the area has come to a standstill.
Also, all schools in Malkangiri district have been declared holiday today due to heavy rain. All government, private schools, anganwadi centres will remain closed on Monday.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Malkangiri. A warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain. The District Magistrate has issued instructions in view of the warning.
