Garlic and Onion price rise in Odisha, majority of consumers distressed

Bhubaneswar: There has been an onion price rise in Odisha said reliable reports on Wednesday, the price of onions has reached Rs 50 per kilogram. After potatoes, onions are making the consumer cry.

The retail price of onion in Cuttack Chhatra Bazaar is now Rs. 50 per kilo. The sellers have expressed their displeasure over the increase in the price of onion. In case there is no immediate action, it may not take long for onion prices to touch Rs. 100.

Traders said that prices are high due to the low supply of onions from Nashik. Traders fear that the price of onions may increase further if the import of onions is reduced. Likewise, in the retail market, garlic costs between Rs 270 and Rs 300 per kg.

Local vendors and traders have expressed their concerns over the escalating prices of onions and garlic citing challenges in sourcing the essential vegetable due to the decreased yield.

The situation becomes even more critical in light of the fact that the onion is a fundamental ingredient in Indian cooking, and its affordability is integral to the diets of millions. Homemakers are now voicing their apprehension about managing their household budgets with these escalating food prices.
