Ship belonging to a private company enroute Somalia with rice and sugar caught fire at the Subhashnagar Jetty off the coast of Gujarat
Porbandar: In a shocking incident, a ship anchored at the Subhashnagar Jetty at Porbandar in Gujarat caught fire. The ship was reportedly on its way to Somalia.
According to reports, the ship belongs to a Jamnagar-based private company. It was reportedly loaded with rice and sugar. The ship caught fire, and three fire brigade vehicles arrived at the scene.
The ship was towed to the middle of the sea as the fire became severe due to its load of rice. It is further worth mentioning that, the ship was bound for Bosaso in Somalia.
Back in June, a fire incident was reported on a ship off the coast of Oman. The ship had as many as 14 crew members of Indian origin. The Indian Navy stealth frigate INS Tabar immediately rushed to rescue.
According to reports, the Spokesperson of the Indian Navy posted on X and wrote, “Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Tabar, mission deployed in the Gulf of Oman, responded to a distress call from Pulau-flagged MT Yi Cheng 6, on 29 June.”
Further the Navy said, “The vessel with 14 crew members of Indian origin, transiting from Kandla, India, to Shinas, Oman, experienced a major fire in the engine room and total power failure onboard.”
“The firefighting team and equipment from INS Tabar were transferred onboard by the ship’s boat and helicopter. 13 Indian naval personnel and 05 crew members of the stricken tanker are currently involved in firefighting operations, with the intensity of fire onboard reduced drastically,” the Indian Navy further informed.
