Massive fire breaks out at building in Hyderabad near Charminar, 17 dead

Deadly fire ravages Charminar building, claims 17 lives including women and children in Hyderabad's old city, several injured.

Hyderabad:  At least 17 people, including three women and two children, lost their lives in a massive fire that ravaged a building on Gulzar Houz Road near Charminar in Hyderabad. Few others were hospitalized with burns and suffocation injuries.

Reportedly, the majority of the survivors were having difficulty breathing from the heavy smoke, and medical teams were in constant effort to supply them with oxygen and other forms of treatment. The origin of the fire is yet to be determined, and authorities investigating to determine the cause of the incident.

A fire department official said that they received a call around 6.30 am and rushed to the accident spot immediately. Eleven fire engines fought the blaze and the injured were admitted to hospitals.

Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar says, “The fire broke out around 6 am and by 6:16 am the fire department of the Telangana government was present at the spot. They tried to save everyone. But the fire had spread massively… The majority of the people inside the building have died. The Chief Minister has spoken to the family (who were living in the building that caught fire). The state government will fully support the family. We will conduct a thorough review to ensure fire safety and avoid any such incidents in the future. The public also has to support the fire department in this.

In another accident, a devastating fire was averted in MetroChem API Pvt Ltd, a pharmaceutical company in Anakapalli district’s Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City. The fire occurred in the effluent treatment plant around 6:30 AM on Tuesday but was soon doused by firefighters within 20 minutes. Anakapalli Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha appreciated the timely action of the fire department and said their prompt response averted a big disaster and saved the lives of the people in the neighborhood. Due to the quick response, there were no injuries have been reported.
