Bengaluru: Some hours left for the final moment when Vikram lander will make soft landing to the Moon’s surface, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) informed, they are all set to initiate the Automatic Landing Sequence (ALS).

The LM comprising the lander (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan), is scheduled to make a touchdown near the south polar region of the Moon at 6:04 pm.

Awaiting the arrival of Lander Module (LM) at the designated point, around 17:44 Hrs. IST. Upon receiving the ALS command, the LM activates the throttleable engines for powered descent. The mission operations team will keep confirming the sequential execution of commands. The live telecast of operations at MOX begins at 17:20 Hrs, informs ISRO in their post X.

Chandrayaan-3 mission”, was launched on July 14, 2023, on board the Launch Vehicle Mark III.  Since entering the moon’s orbit on August 5, the spacecraft has undergone several orbit reduction maneuvers, culminating in the separation of its two modules, the rover and the lander, on August 17.

If successful, India will become the fourth country in the world to achieve a soft moon landing, following the United States, China, and the former Soviet Union.
