Introducing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as PS-1’s Nandini, the furious beauty queen

On the heels of releasing the first looks of Vikram as Aditya Karikalan and Karthi as Vanthiyathevan from director Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, the makers of the much-awaited epic film on Wednesday released the first look of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Queen Nandini in the film.

The filmmakers, Lyca Productions, have chosen an approach where they want to introduce each character to the audience before the trailer is released.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will play the role of the queen Nandini in PS 1, also known as Ponniyin Selvan Part 1. She is portrayed as a vengeful Pazhuvoor kingdom queen on the Lyca Productions Instagram account. In contrast, Vikram portrays the ferocious warrior Prince Aditya Karikalan, and Karthi plays the shadowy espionage role of Vanthiyathevan.

Ponniyin Selvan, which takes place in the tenth century, follows the power battles between factions inside the Chola empire, with enemies of the state acting as catalysts. The narrative takes place during the turbulent time before Ponniyin Selvan (son of River Kaveri), afterwards known as Rajaraja Chola, became one of the greatest monarchs in Indian history and ushered in a golden age.

The film is based on the classic Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan by eminent writer Kalki. The film, called by Mani Ratnam as his dream project, will be among the most expensive projects ever undertaken in the country.

The film has the best business handling team for each of its departments. A. R. Rahman is scoring the music for this epic historical and cinematography is by Ravi Varman. National Award winning art director Thotta Tharani is in charge of production design while Mani Ratnam’s trusted editor Sreekar Prasad is the editor.

Along with them, the movie also stars Trisha, R. Parthiban, Sarath Kumar, Sobhita Dulipala, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi, and Prabhu in a multi-star ensemble cast. On September 30, the movie will be available in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
