Bombay HC denies permission to Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra to travel
The Bombay High Court has refused to allow actor Shilpa Shetty and businessman husband Raj Kundra to travel to Phuket.
The Bombay High Court has refused to allow actor Shilpa Shetty and businessman husband Raj Kundra to travel to Phuket, Thailand for a short family trip.
As per the sources, the court also declined to stay the lookout circular issued by the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police, which prevents them from leaving the country.
The case against the couple began after businessman Deepak Kothari filed a complaint claiming he was persuaded to invest about Rs. 60 crore in their company.
According to him, instead of being used for business, the money was spent on their personal expenses. The company later shut down leading to further investigation.
Raj Kundra has reportedly already appeared before investigators for questioning. Their lawyers told the court that Raj’s business often requires him to travel overseas and Shilpa Shetty’s acting career also involves international projects.
They argued that restricting them from travelling abroad affects their professional work. However, government lawyers opposed the plea, pointing out the seriousness of the charges.
After hearing both sides, the bench led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad decided not to grant any relief. The next hearing in the case will be held after two weeks.
