India has recorded a total of 116 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases to 4170.

New Delhi: In the latest information, India recorded a total of 116 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of active cases in the country currently stands at 4170, confirmed the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday.

So far, three deaths due to Covid-19 have been reported in Karnataka. Earlier on India, India recorded a total of 628 positive Covid cases in a single day.

In an official statement, the Union Health ministry said that India recorded a total of 63 cases of the JN.1 variant till December 24.

Notably, the JN.1 variant of Covid is closely related to the BA.2.86 variant, which also goes by the name of ‘Pirola.’ Number of ‘Pirola’ cases have lately been on rise in countries like US and China.

There has been a rise in the number of JN.1 cases in India in the past few weeks. However, 92 percent of the infected people are being cured by home based treatment itself. Hence, there is no reason of immediate concern. Further, a rise in hospitalisation has not been recorded as well.

Meanwhile, all states have been advised to stay alert and in compliance to the operational guidelines, as shared by the Health Ministry and Family Welfare.
