Several feared dead as training aircraft crashes crashes in Moscow over engine failure

In a tragic incident, a light training aircraft crashed in the Kolomna district of Russia’s Moscow region on Saturday. Four people who were on-board including crew and trainees died on spot.
According to the Russia’s disaster management ministry, aircraft named the Yakovlev Yak-18T aircraft went down after engine failed due to aerobatic manoeuvre. The plane reportedly caught fire due to the impact.
No injuries or damage was reported on spot.
According to some unofficial reports, the plane didn’t have official permission to fly. This has further increased the seriousness of the accident. The prosecutor’s office has started an in-depth investigation into the matter of accident.
As per preliminary investigation reports, engine of the plane had a technical fault due to which the plane lost its balance and crashed into an open field. After the collision, plane caught fire in which all the members who were boarded on plane died on spot.
The Yak-18T is a light trainer aircraft, used extensively in flying clubs and training centres in the countries of the former Soviet Union. It is also widely used in basic training centers.
The aircraft is a four seat, single engine, light utility aircraft developed in the Soviet Union in the 1960’s. It was primarily designed for training civil aviation pilots.
