London: Britain would face 100% tariffs on pharmaceuticals imported into the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s latest plan, sources told Reuters.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced that he has imposed a 100% tariff on branded and patented pharmaceutical products beginning October 1, 2025.

“We know this will be concerning for industry, which is why we’ve been actively engaging with the U.S. and will continue to do so over the coming days,” a British government spokesperson said.

The European Union and Japan are exempted from Trump’s latest tariff threat because both negotiated trade deals that capped pharmaceutical duties at 15%.

Britain was the first nation to strike a trade deal with Trump, but the pharmaceutical rate remains under negotiation, so Britain is not shielded from the new tariffs, a source told Reuters on Friday.

As per the US trade data, Pharmaceuticals imports from Britain accounted for about 3.3% of the total pharmaceuticals imports to the USA in 2024.
