Odisha Panchayat Representatives to get Rs 2 lakh death/disability compensation

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has decided to provide death/disability compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the Panchayat Representatives.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has decided to provide death/disability compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the Panchayat Representatives.

According to the decision, everyone from the ward members working under the Panchayati Raj system to the District Council President will be included in this. In case of death due to any reason during the tenure of the Panchayat Representatives, a compassionate relief of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to their next of kin.

Similarly, in case of loss of both eyes, hands or legs, the concerned Panchayat Representative will be provided with Rs 2 lakh and in case of loss of one eye or one hand or leg, then he will be provided with a compensation of Rs 1 lakh.

“In the constitutional system, the Panchayat Representatives are the elected representatives at the grassroots level. They are directly connected with the people. They help them in their problems. They have a significant contribution in rural development. However, if any accident happens to them, they face a lot of problems. Keeping all this in mind, the Chief Minister has taken the decision to provide this compensation,” informed the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
