Odisha government to hold meeting and issue guidelines for disciplined darshan, traffic during Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government will be soon bringing Guidelines for Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra darshan. A review meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja will be convened today in Bhubaneswar.

Crucial discussions on the smooth conduction of Rath Yatra, Bahuda Yatra and several other festivities organised in the Srimandir at Puri will also be done. The crowd management and other disciplinary steps will be taken in the meeting for the upcoming Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra darshan.

This comes in the aftermath of the Rath Yatra stampede on June 29 that claimed the lives of three devotees at Puri. Notably, three devotes identified as Basanti Sahu (36) from Bolagarh, and Premakant Mohanty (80) and Pravati Das (42) from Balipatna died following the stampede that occurred between 4 and 4.20 AM on Monday at Saradhabali, just outside Gundicha Temple.

The Bhaktas, overcome with devotion to seek darshan of the Lords indulge in stampede. Thus to avoid situations in the future and to regulate the traffic conditions the government will bring about special guidelines for the darshan from next year.

Other shortcomings in this year’s Rath Yatra conduction will also be discussed in today’s meeting. The state government has taken the matter seriously and is taking steps to rule out any other mishap in the following years to come. This can be done with proper administrative machinery in place and by cutting out on the defunct

The District Collector of Puri, Dibya Jyoti Parida, SP Pinak Mishra, Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee and Urban Development Secretary will be present in the meeting.
