Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet has reportedly approved a proposal to bring changes to Odisha Civil Services (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules, 2020, with the aim to give job to the deserving family member, informed Odisha Chief Minster Mohan Charan Majhi.

While informing to the members of the State Assembly about the decision taking during the Odisha Cabinet meeting held yesterday, Majhi said, “Our government took a historic decision in the cabinet yesterday. We all feel that when a head of a family dies, the family becomes helpless. The family is thrown into a state of distress. Earlier, when a government employee dies, the state government used to give job to a member of the family in Group C or Group D as per the Odisha Civil Service (Relocation Assistance) Rules, 1990 to help the bereaved family. Such appointments were made on the basis of a disaster certificate issued by the district administration.”

“Unfortunately, in 2020, the then government enacted new rules and introduced a marking system instead of disaster certificates. Surprisingly, the families of government employees who died between 1990 and 2020 were also brought under the ambit of the new rules. Due to this, many families have been deprived of this assistance and are demanding employment and many cases have also been filed,” he added.

“The Cabinet yesterday took a historic decision that before the commencement of the Odisha Civil Services (Resettlement Assistance) Rules, 2020, all pending applications related to rehabilitation assistance will be considered as per the rules in force in 1990. This will enable the 1990 rules to be applicable to the families of employees who died before the 2020 rules came into force and employment will be provided under the 1990 rules under the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme,” the CM informed.

“This will provide relief to many families and reduce the number of cases pending in the High Court and the Supreme Court. This will work to resolve the problems of our people and it demonstrates the commitment of our government to ensure that the families of the deceased employees live with dignity,” the Chief Minster informed.
