3 flyers detained with over 50,000 foreign cigarettes at Bhubaneswar Airport
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today detained three passengers at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) or Bhubaneswar Airport after recovering over 50,000 foreign cigarettes from their possessions.
Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today detained three passengers at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) or Bhubaneswar Airport after recovering over 50,000 foreign cigarettes from their possessions.
The officers of the DRI, Bhubaneswar Regional Unit, intercepted three Indian passengers based on a specific intelligence developed by the DRI after they landed at the Bhubaneswar Airport from Abu Dhabi.
Examination of the checked-in baggage of the passenger resulted in recovery of total 38,400 pieces of cigarettes, 4,000 pieces of cigars, 1,228 cartridges of e-Cigarettes, 6 Wireless microphones (DJI MIC Mini) and 10 Refurbished Laptops (Dell latitude) collectively valued at around of Rs 27,00,000.
Later, the recovered items were handed over to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Bhubaneswar Customs for further investigation and have been seized as per the Customs Act, 1962.
Meanwhile it is suspected that those detained persons had planned to smuggle the seized goods to the country in order to evade customs duty and then sell them in the local market in Mumbai after going by road.
