New Delhi: A powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on July 29, 2025.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremor occurred at 00:11:50 IST, with its epicenter located at 6.82°N latitude and 93.37°E longitude, at a shallow depth of 10 km.
The quake’s impact on coastal regions or islands is still being assessed, but no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received.
The Indian Meteorological Department has urged people in coastal areas to remain cautious and prepared for any eventuality.
Notably, another quake of 6.5 magnitude hit the Nicobar Islands region, but authorities confirmed there was no tsunami threat.
