His mother is a sorcerer, and Rinki (Archita Sahu), the village doctor’s daughter, is in love with Buttu. One night, while returning home, Buttu becomes possessed by the ghost of Amari (Jagannath, a NSD Delhi pass-out), who was killed by the villagers. A series of unforeseen events unfolds, with ghost-possessed Buttu spending time with Rinki and Ratnamala, leading to frightening, spooky, and suspenseful moments. The film ends on a note that suggests a potential sequel.
Review
“Bou Buttu Bhuta” has garnered praise from Odia film enthusiasts, who appreciate its quality and prefer it over films in other languages. The film’s release during the Raja Festival, a significant celebration in eastern Odisha, was timely, but its success can be attributed to several strong factors. Unlike the struggling Odia films of the past, which barely ran for a day or two in single theaters during the copy-paste era, “Bou Buttu Bhuta” is playing to packed houses in multiplexes like Inox.
The performances of all the characters are powerful and realistic, with natural acting that resonates with the audience. The story, screenplay, and Babusan’s comic timing have contributed significantly to the film’s success. Technically, the film is sound, with impressive background scoring that perfectly synchronizes with the sequences. Archita Sahu once again proves herself to be one of Odia cinema’s finest actresses. Last but not least, Jagannath’s outstanding performance as Amari has been widely praised.
