NCBC to hold public hearing over OBC status list in Bhubaneswar on August 20

The NCBC will conduct a public hearing on the inclusion and/or exclusion of OBC in Bhubaneswar with the presence of CS on August 20.

Bhubaneswar: The National Commission of Backward Classes (NCBC) to hold a public hearing in Bhubaneswar on August 20 over the status of the Central OBC list.

The NCBC Chairman Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, will chair the hearing on August 20 in Bhubaneswar.

Several proposals on the inclusion and/or exclusion of castes in the Other backward classes (OBCs) will also be deliberated.

The hearing will proceed on the Odisha government’s report. Other individual and organisational requests for inclusion or exclusion in the central OBC list will also be reviewed.

The constitutional body has urged the representatives of the communities to be present during the hearing. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja has been directed to submit the hard and soft copy of the relevant documents and original records by August 15, 2025.

In the past, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a massive protest in front of the Raj Bhavan today demanding 27% reservation for SEBC/OBC students and 38.75% reservation for SC/ST students in medical, engineering, and other professional and vocational education sectors.

Thousands of party workers and leaders gathered to voice their support for this just cause. A delegation of senior party leaders submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Odisha, conveying the party’s demands.

The first ever survey of social and educational conditions of people belonging to 208 other backward class (OBC) section was conducted in 2023 in Odisha. It was conducted in both online and offline modes and continued across the state till May 27, 2023. The Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes is conducting the survey in all 314 blocks and 114 civic body areas in Odisha.
