The high drama in front of Odisha Assembly continued till late night as several Congress leaders and workers continued their protest against suspension of 12 party MLAs from the state assembly for seven day.
Bhubaneswar: The high drama in front of Odisha Assembly continued till late night as several Odisha Congress leaders and workers continued their protest against the suspension of 12 party MLAs from the state assembly for seven days.
The Congress party started its protest after 12 party MLAs namely Rama Chandra Kadam, C.S. Rajan Ekka, Dasarathi Gamang, Ashok Das, Satyajit Gamang Sagar Das, Prafula Pradhan, Nilamadhab Hikaka, Pabitra Saunta, Kadraka Appala Swamy, Mangu Khilla and Sofia Firdous were suspended by Speaker Surama Padhy for seven working-days on charges of repeatedly creating indiscipline in the House.
While the suspended MLAs protested inside the State Assembly, their party-men along with several veteran leaders protested infront of the Assembly.
Speaker Surama Padhy directed marshals of the Assembly to drive out the suspended 12 MLAs from the house after they decided to sit on agitation throughout night. However, a minor scuffle erupted between the legislators and the marshals when the latter attempted to forcefully drive the formers out of the Assembly house.
On the other hand, the protest outside the Assembly House got intensified after several party leaders including OPCC President Bhakta Charan Das, former OPCC Presidents Niranjan Patnaik and Jayadev Jena, veteran leader Narasingha Mishra and many workers attempted to enter the assembly after knowing that one of the Congress MLAs,Rama Chandra Kadam, who is still inside the assembly, was injured due to a scuffle with the security personnel and an ambulance was called-in.
Later, police detained some of the Congress men and imposed Section 163 of BNSS around Odisha Assembly in view of the protest. Security also was tightened to prevent any untoward incident.
