A massive 50-meter deep sinkhole was formed after a part of a road in Thailand’s Bangkok collapsed on Wednesday
Bangkok: A massive 50-metre-wide sinkhole was formed after a part of the road suddenly collapsed in Thailand’s Bangkok.
The incident has swallowed cars, toppled electricity poles, and triggered evacuations near Vajira Hospital and a police station in the city centre.
The incident has resulted in damaged vehicles, extensive power and water outages. The patients of the Vajira hospital and residents in the nearby flats were immediately evacuated as the hole measuring 30 by 30 metres wide and 50 metres deep appeared in front of the hospital.
Vajira Hospital said in a statement that outpatient services would be suspended until Thursday. Its building near the site was temporarily closed, but surgery and emergency services were operating as normal, it added.
However, no casualties were reported but three vehicles were damaged due to the road collapse. The sinkhole engulfed a car while another hangs trapped at the edge.
