Snake bite deaths on rise in Odisha as four die in 24 hours

As many as four people died of snake bites in Odisha. This has put the Government in a tough spot as the deaths have been rising.

Berhampur/Anandpur: As many as four people died in two separate incidents due to snake bite in Odisha. A woman and her niece died in Berhampur of Ganjam district in Odisha while a woman and her son in Anandapur in Keonjhar district due to snake bites.

According to information, a woman and her niece were sleeping in their verandah in Buratala Gram Panchayat under Patrapur block in Ganjam district on Wednesday night. When they were sleeping, a snake slithered into their house and bit them. Following the sting they woke up with pain and hearing their loud cries the family members woke up. They rushed them to the hospital but unfortunately died while being taken.

The deceased woman has been identified as Damayanti Sabar and her niece has been identified as Limi Sabar.

In another incident, a woman and her son died of snake bite.  The incident happened in Radhikadeipur village under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district.

The deceased woman has been identified as Jemamani. She and her 10-year-old were sleeping in their house at night. A snake quietly entered into their house and bit its venomous poison. The incident reportedly occurred at around 1 am on Thursday.

Her husband Sunil rushed both of them to the Kesadurpala primary healthcare. Their condition deteriorated and then they were rushed to Anandapur Community health Centre (CHC). But before they could reach the CHC. Following their deaths a pall of gloom ascended on the family.

Such incidents of snake bite has terrorised the people of Odisha. The rainy season gives way to creepy creatures and snakes slithering into houses.

In another tragic incident, a four-year-old child was killed in Nuapada district of Odisha on August 5 after being bitten by a poisonous snake. The incident took place in the Bakhalikhunti village under Boden Block of the district.
