Baripada: Odisha Vigilance today nabbed Hemanta Kumar Behera, the ADEO (Accountant-cum-Data Entry Operator) of Talapada Grama Panchayat in Mayurbhanj district while demanding and taking bribe.
The Vigilance sleuths nabbed him while demanding and taking bribe Rs.2500 from a beneficiary (a poor farmer) under MGNREG scheme for generation of work code in respect of the Farm Pond sanctioned in his favour.
Under the MGNREG scheme, farm pond eligibility primarily targets less privileged groups of the Society like SC/ST, BPL, and Small/ marginal farmers etc. As code generation is required for issue of work order, beneficiary had been requesting ADEO for over a month since sanction of the Farm Pond in his favour to generate the code.
Instead, Behera demanded bribe of Rs 2500 from the beneficiary. Being a poor marginal farmer, the beneficiary was not able to pay the demanded bribe and, therefore, expressed his inability. But, the accused ADEO insisted the beneficiary to pay the demanded bribe.
Finding no other means, beneficiary approached the Vigilance authorities narrating his harassment.
Earlier, complainants were received against Behera for taking bribes from other beneficiaries. Following this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed the ADEO, today while taking the bribe. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the accused and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations linked to Sri Behera from DA angle.
In this connection, Balasore Vigilance PS case No.18 dt.05.12.2025, U/s: 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against accused ADEO.
