Married woman raped in Rourkela, main accused arrested
A married woman was reportedly raped near the Railway Over Bridge (ROB) under the Raghunathpali police station limits of Rourkela last evening.
Rourkela: A married woman was reportedly raped near the Railway Over Bridge (ROB) under the Raghunathpali police station limits of Rourkela last evening.
As alleged by the woman, a youth forcefully raped her yesterday evening while another youth also attempted to sexually assault her. However, she managed to escape from their clutches and reported the incident at the Raghunathpali police station.
While informing about the crime, Panposh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rashmiranjan Mohapatra, said that a woman lodged a police complaint yesterday alleging that she was raped by a youth while his associate also attempted to do the same. She was raped while returning home from her workplace, he added.
Mohapatra further said that based on the woman’s complaint, cops started an investigation and arrested the main accused whom they identified as Kanhucharan Jena while another youth who also attempted to rape the woman after Jena sexually assaulted her has been detained.
Police arrested Jena after getting several evidences related to the crime and he will be forwarded to the court after completion of the legal process, he mentioned.
Likewise, efforts by the police are underway to ascertain the involvement of the second youths and he will also be arrested and forwarded to the court if found guilty, he added.
Further probe into the matter is underway.
