New Delhi: Ukraine has claimed a groundbreaking victory in the Black Sea, using underwater drones to hit a Russian Kilo-class submarine docked in Novorossiysk, Russia’s most important remaining Black Sea base.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out the operation using “Sub Sea Baby” drones, marking the first time an underwater drone has neutralized a submarine.

The submarine, capable of carrying Kalibr-type cruise missiles, suffered critical damage and is likely out of operation, says Dmytro Pletenchuk, Ukrainian navy spokesperson.
