Bed bugs infest Google office in New York, employees informed through emails

A bed bug infestation hit the Google campus at Chelsea in New York city. The employees had to work from home temporarily till the exterminators got the situation under control.

The incident happened on October 19-20, 2025, said an internal email from Google’s environmental, health and safety team suggested the same. The notified their staff through the mail. A specially trained dog was also brought to inspect the premises.

The bed bugs infestation in Google office prompted the closure of the Chelsea campus to be shut on Sunday while the staff was asked to return only after pest control.

Following the spread, Google is following precautionary inspections at its other sites in NY city including the one at Hudson square.

It is worth mentioning here that earlier, bed bug infestation occured at Manhattan in 2010. New York has been ranked 15th worst city in 2025 for bed bug infestation with a position better than its rank at 2 last year.

The bed bug infestation in the Google office can be majorly attributed to the high tourism and population rather than cleanliness issues.
