Manila: Atleast 60 people were killed and several others were wounded after a strong earthquake of 6.9 hits Philippines. The earthquake took place at Cebu province on Tuesday.

The magnitude 6.9 quake struck at 9:59 pm (1359 GMT) Tuesday off the island’s northern end near Bogo, a city of 90,000 people, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and 14 people died.

Due to earthquake many buildings and houses were damaged and injured people were being rushed to the hospital as the rescue operations are on.

Up to 60 people are reported killed so far, Office of Civil Defence deputy administrator Rafaelito Alejandro said.

A tsunami warning was issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology advising people to stay away from the coastlines in Cebu and in the nearby provinces of Leyte and Biliran. However, the warning was later lifted.
