OnePlus might be the first smartphone manufacturer in the world to offer Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset in its handset, cited the latest leak. This chipset will be the slotted under the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset that launched on Wednesday. The Xiaomi 17 series is expected to be the first smartphone series (in China) to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 devices
According to recent post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset will launch in global markets in September with the upcoming Xiaomi 17 series. The series is expected to include devices like Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, all of which will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Even though the launch date of Xiaomi 17 series is China is known, the global launch date of the series worldwide is unknown.
The tipster also mentioned that the OnePlus will be the first smartphone manufacturer to offer new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. It can be assumed that the device with the above mentioned chipset will be OnePlus 15R (successor to OnePlus 13R).
The leak mentions that the first batch of new phones in October to offer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will be the iQOO 15, OnePlus 15, REDMI K90 series, Red Magic 11 Pro series and many more.
The launch of the models might be initially in China or limited to China. The global availability is unknown.
Qualcomm has claimed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC offers multiple updates if compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. The SoC offers up to 23 percent better performance if compared to its predecessor.
