Google Chrome to unsubscribe notifications automatically from websites you rarely visit

Google Chrome will automatically disable notifications from websites that you no longer visit, reported 9to5 Google.

Notifications can become a menace when they are unnecessary on your Android device or desktop. In order to counter the problem, Google Chrome will automatically disable notifications from websites that you no longer visit, reported 9to5 Google. This is applicable for Chrome for Android and desktop.

According to the report, Google is revoking permission for notification from those websites which have a very low user engagement but high volume of alerts. This specific feature is a part of ‘Safety Check’ and it works to remove permissions like camera and location.

In case you are wondering whether things might happen unnoticed, you need not worry about it. Google Chrome will let you know when it has unsubscribed you from notifications (with an alert). In case you want to see which sites have been unsubscribed, you can do so by Settings > Safety Check. There is even an alternate way by visiting the site again and confirming to enable notifications.

However, this is not applicable to those notifications that are received from web apps (PWAs) that are installed (on homescreen or launcher). While testing this capability, Google found a “significant reduction in notification overload with only a minimal change in total notification clicks.”
