Just hours before the second First-Class match against Australia A, star batter Shreya Iyer decided to quit the team's captaincy
New-Delhi: Just hours before the second First-Class match against Australia A, star batter Shreya Iyer decided to quit the team’s captaincy. His last-minute exit from the team prompted the management to name Dhruv Jurel as the India A captain.
The exact reason for the 30-year-old’s withdrawal from the match is not known yet, it has been reported that the reason was a ‘personal’ one. However, Iyer returned to Mumbai soon after deciding to quit the second four-day game against Australia A.
“Yes, Shreyas is taking a break and has returned to Mumbai. He has informed the selectors that he won’t be able to play in the second four-day match against Australia A. However, he remains in fray for a spot in the middle-order when the selectors meet to pick the squad for the West Indies series,” a TOI report quoted a source as saying.
Iyer did play the first match A match against Australia A, scoring 8 off 13 runs respectively and got dismissed by off-spinner Corey Rocchicciol.
Prior to this, Iyer scored 25 and 12 for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone in Bengaluru.
In another change to the India A, pacer Mohammed Siraj will replace Khaleel Ahmed for the second match. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy remains unavailable due to a lingering knee injury and is unlikely to be part of the playing XI for the second match as well.
