Kolkata: India defeated England by 7 wickets in the 1st T20I of the series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Chasing an easy total of 133 runs, India lost 3 wickets in 12.5 overs and achieved the target. The top scorers from the side of hosts were Abhishek Sharma 79 (34) and Sanju Samson 26 (20).

England batted first in the match and stated to lose wicket from the first over itself. As the innings progressed, England failed to build a partnership and constantly lost wickets. The visitors lost their 10th wicket in the last ball of the innings. England captain Jos Butler was the top scorer in the innings- 68 (44). Varun Chakravarty picked 3 wickets while Arshdeep, Hardik and Axar picked 2 each.

Chasing a total of 133 did not bother Indian batters as that did so in 12.5 overs after losing 3 wickets. The three wickets were of Sanju 26 (20), A. Sharma 79(34) and Suryakumar 0 (3). T. Varma 19 (16) and Hardik 3(4) remained non-out at the end of the innings.
