Here’s why Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma did not play in third round of Vijay Hazare Trophy

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not play for Delhi and Mumbai respectively in the third round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

New Delhi: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not play for Delhi and Mumbai respectively in the third round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy today. The reason is that both Rohit and Virat had only signed up to play two games of the tournament and have now fulfilled those commitments.

It is noteworthy to mention that the BCCI had made mandatory for all players to feature in at least two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy during the break.

Rohit played for Mumbai and scored 155 and a duck against Sikkim and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, Kohli playing for Delhi, hit a century against Andhra Pradesh, followed by a brisk 77 in the match against Gujarat. However, both of them did not feature for the Monday match in Mumbai and Delhi’s line ups.

Rohit and Virat has decided to step out from rest of the matches as the two only signed in for first two games. Rohit sharma and Virat Kohli hasn’t played in the tournament since 2018 and 2010, respectively.

Virat kohli is likely to play another match for Delhi. On the other hand, Rohit might not play for the current domestic series. According to the media reports, Kohli will be playing against railways on January 6 which is five days before the first IND vs NZ ODI series starting from January 11, 2026.

The two big cricketers will feature in the ODI series against New Zealand are expected to join the national camp soon.

Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are likely to be rested for the first ODI series against New Zealand. They are expected to show up in the T20I series against the Kiwi and play all five matches in the series.

Both Hardik and Bumrah have not played ODI since Champions Trophy final in March this year and 2023 World Cup final respectively.
