RCB batting coach Dinesh Karthik is keeping his team humble after their stunning seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants. Karthik reminded the team that they have more important fish to fry, and he encouraged them to remain calm and focused on getting to the biggest prize. “We have reached the playoffs, and not only that, we have finished second. But I believe this room feels there is a larger goal in front of us. And for that, we have to keep calm,” Karthik said in a team message.
Karthik’s comments came after RCB’s dramatic victory against LSG, which made the side the first-ever IPL outfit to win all seven away games in a season. The unit has been in sparkling form, and Karthik reinforced that any member of the unit could mirror Jitesh Sharma’s match-winning effort. “Any of you in the playing 12 can do exactly what Jitesh Sharma did. It’s about making you believe that you’re the one when you step into that game,” he continued.
Director of Cricket Mo Bobat concurred with Karthik, pointing to the achievements of the team but emphasizing that there is more work to be done. “We’ve checked off some amazing milestones – seven out of seven away wins, our highest ever chase, and the third highest ever IPL chase. But it’s important to keep in mind that these numbers aren’t what we assembled for this year. We’ve got our most significant week coming up, and the right mindset is important.” RCB will now meet table-toppers Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur.
