Social media can get a bit wild, and the latest evidence is a TikTok prank that has gone viral. It involves video-calling a loved one and then suddenly switching to a clip of a desi man, leaving the person on the other end totally confused and startled.
While some have laughed at the prank video, others slam it as racist and dehumanizing. Taking someone’s image for a laugh without asking for permission isn’t cool, first of all. And what makes this prank worse is that it gained millions of views and likes on TikTok and Instagram, kinda alarming.
For instance, another video of a young woman pranking her mom with this clip gained a whooping 11 million views on Twitter. Yet the question is most of them are criticizing this prank for being racist and dehumanizing. The blowing up of this prank on social media calls for serious questions regarding the kind of content we continue to perpetuate online.
Reacting to the viral video a user commented, ““This ‘trend’ is heavily racist”
Another user commented, “This is so racist, I don’t get how it has become a trend in big big 2025,”
A third user wrote, “I want to be light hearted and like this trend but it being a Black man with so many white girls participating feels gross,”
