Baripada: A young man died in an elephant attack in a forest in Karanjia locality of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Thursday. The deceased youth is said to be a resident of Jharkhand.
A herd of around 30 elephants has been reportedly creating inconveniences to the residents of Jorasahi village for the last couple of days. At a time the wild animals were seen going towards the residential area or destroying the paddy on the field.
Annoyed over the loss of crops and threat to life, the villagers were today trying to disperse the elephants from the locality. However, the elephant herd tried to attack them by running towards them.
While everyone managed to run and escaped, one of them accidentally fell on the ground when an angry elephant chased them. As he could not get up again to run further, the elephant reached him within no time and trampled him to death.
The entire horrific incident which was filmed by one of the residents on his mobile phone has gone viral in the area.
The youth’s death due to the elephant attack has further created panic among the villagers, who are having a sleepless night. They are seen sitting outside their houses with bonfires and are keeping a close watch on the movement of the wild elephants.
On the other hand, the forest department is also taking all possible steps to drive out the wild animals from the locality. They also have advised the people neither to attack the elephants nor to make them angry, rather stay at home safely.
